1. Routine Maintenance & Cleaning

Thanks to their non-porous, commercial-grade finish, Jay Scotts planters require minimal daily upkeep, making them highly cost-effective for facility management.

  • The Process: Simply wipe the surface with a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge using a mixture of mild liquid soap and warm water.
  • What to Avoid: Never use harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, ammonia, or abrasive scrubbing pads (such as steel wool), as these will permanently scratch and degrade the protective clear coat.
  • Frequency: As needed, depending on the environment (e.g., more frequent dusting in high-traffic lobbies or outdoor urban settings).

2. Professional Protection: Preserving the Finish

Just like a luxury vehicle, your planters are exposed to UV rays and environmental pollutants. To maintain that "day-one" factory luster, we highly recommend an annual protective treatment.

  • Waxing: Apply a high-quality marine-grade or automotive carnauba wax to the exterior of the planter once or twice a year.
  • The Benefit: This creates an invisible microscopic barrier that repels dust, prevents oxidation, and provides superior UV resistance, significantly extending the life of the vibrant color finish.

3. Winterizing & Extreme Weather Care

Our fiberglass planters are strictly frost-proof and designed to remain outdoors year-round, from freezing alpine resorts to scorching Mediterranean coasts. However, proper drainage is non-negotiable.

  • Drainage is Key: If left outdoors during freezing temperatures, ensure the planter has adequate, unobstructed drainage holes. Water expanding into ice inside a sealed or clogged planter can exert enough force to compromise any structural material.
  • Raising the Planter: In areas with heavy snowfall or freezing rain, ensure the bottom of the planter does not freeze to the ground, which can block drainage holes. Elevating the planter slightly can prevent this.

4. Minor Repairs & Restoration (The B2B Advantage)

Accidents happen in bustling commercial spaces. Unlike cheap plastic or ceramic pots that must be discarded when damaged, Jay Scotts fiberglass planters are fully restorable.

  • Scratches & Scuffs: Light surface scratches can often be buffed out using a standard automotive polishing compound and a microfiber cloth.
  • Deep Chips: For deeper gouges, touch-up paint matching our standard RAL colors can be applied. The structural integrity of the fiberglass ensures the planter remains fully functional even if cosmetically chipped.

5. Simple Home Care

Bringing Jay Scotts into your private residence? The rules remain delightfully simple: keep them clean with soapy water, wipe away hard-water stains from irrigation systems promptly, and enjoy your beautiful, maintenance-free landscape.
