The Cuba is the planter that gets specified when the space refuses to accommodate anything else. Just 35.6 centimetres deep, 30.5 centimetres tall, and stretching from just under a metre to nearly two metres in length — proportions designed for the places where the deeper, more massive rectangular systems simply won't go. A narrow balcony where every centimetre of standing room counts. A circulation corridor that needs greenery but can't lose its width. A hotel pool deck where the line of planting matters but the line of paving matters more. The Cuba fits where the others have to be turned away.
What's surprising is how much it accomplishes despite the slim profile. A single Cuba 72-inch length running along the edge of a terrace doesn't ask for attention — but the moment it's planted, the entire terrace acquires definition. Two lengths flanking a path turn it into an entrance sequence. Three end to end along a façade transform a flat exterior wall into a planted street-level garden. The trick is that the eye reads the line, not the depth. As long as the planting itself is well-chosen — clipped boxwood, lavender, ornamental grasses, year-round structural greens with seasonal layers — the slimness becomes elegance rather than compromise.
This is why architects and landscape designers keep coming back to the Cuba for projects with awkward geometries. Long, narrow ribbons of paving along the side of a building. The transition between a building and a public footpath. Boutique hotel courtyards where the floor plan never quite repeats. Restaurant terraces fitted into existing urban shells where every centimetre is fought for. The four lengths (91.4 / 121.9 / 152.4 / 182.9 cm) combine into runs of any total length, and the matching corner piece lets the line turn cleanly at right angles. With matching saucers available for every size, the same planters work indoors with the same finish: lobby reception lines, gallery and showroom display edges, restaurant zones on hard floors.
Every Cuba is hand-finished in the same automotive-grade composite fiberglass as the rest of the Jay Scotts collection. It endures from −20 °C to +50 °C without cracking or fading, and remains light enough to be repositioned by hand — which matters more here than in most planter systems, because the Cuba so often ends up in places where temporary installations, seasonal layouts and on-the-fly adjustments are part of how the space is used. Available in four lengths with matching corner and a full range of saucers, in all 21 standard Jay Scotts finishes, with custom colour matching on request.
