About this planter

An ancient silhouette, made for now.

The Bara is the planter that arrives carrying a memory. A wide-shouldered body rising to a softly narrowed neck — the silhouette of every olive jar in every Mediterranean courtyard, every storage urn outside a Tuscan farmhouse, every weathered vessel marking the entrance to a Greek-island chapel. Except this one isn't terracotta. It's hand-finished composite fiberglass, in any of twenty-one modern finishes, weighing a fraction of what its ancestors did and ready to live anywhere — including the places where a real clay jar would never survive a winter.
That's what makes the Bara such an unexpectedly useful piece. The form is instantly readable as classical, but the colour decides what kind of classical you mean. In a soft matte white it reads as a coastal villa. In matte black it becomes architectural, almost industrial — the same archetype recast as a contemporary object. In Gloss Saffron or Matte Cobalt Blue, it stops referencing anything and just becomes a statement. One shape, twenty-one different conversations, depending entirely on the finish you pair it with.
It belongs in places that benefit from a single, well-chosen object rather than a busy composition. A pair on either side of a front door — particularly a tall, panelled one — gives an entrance an immediate sense of arrival, the kind that doesn't need announcing. On a stone or travertine terrace, a single Bara planted with a low olive or a clipped citrus reads as a small piece of landscape history. Inside, in a hotel lobby or a private library with proportions to match, the larger size becomes a sculptural anchor — quietly grand without trying. The narrower opening keeps the planting tight and architectural; this isn't a planter for sprawling arrangements, it's one for considered specimens that reward the eye that finds them.
Every Bara is hand-finished in the same automotive-grade composite fiberglass as the rest of the Jay Scotts collection. It endures from −20 °C to +50 °C without cracking or fading — a real advantage over the ceramic and terracotta originals it references, which split in the first hard frost. Despite the substantial silhouette, it remains light enough to be repositioned by hand, so the same jar that frames a winter entrance can move out onto the terrace when the weather turns. Available in two sizes (78.7 and 94 cm tall) and all 21 standard Jay Scotts finishes, with custom colour matching on request.
Ideal for Front-door & entrance framing · Mediterranean & courtyard gardens · Hotel lobbies & libraries · Coastal & villa terraces · Stone, travertine & limestone settings · Classical, traditional & transitional interiors · Modernist projects looking for a single anchoring object · Olive trees, clipped citrus, bay & boxwood specimens · A single sculptural focal point rather than a busy composition
